These events are for pupils who are ready and prepared for competition and enjoy performing and competing against others. They provide the opportunity for competition in a positive and friendly environment where the focus is on enjoyment and supporting the wider development of young people as much as the outcome of the event itself.
Who for?
This is a team based competition consisting of four athletics events where individual performances are scored using a points table and the winners are the team with the highest cumulative score. It is aimed at children in year 3/4 to give them an experience of Athletics competition.
Outcome
The intended outcome of this competition is to provide children in year 3/4 the experience of competition within the sport of Athletics. Although they will perform individually the scoring system of this event encourages teamwork and social development.
- Social Development – Sports competitions can provide a sense of belonging, enabling young people to develop their teamwork, communication, empathy and respect for others.
General Information
All children in the team will perform a 50m sprint, 400m run, standing long jump, and vortex howler throw.
Teams consist of 8-10 children (4 or 5 Boys and 4 or 5 Girls). The scores of the top 4 boys and top 4 girls over the four events are added together to give the team score. We recommend that you try to make teams of 10 in case any member of the team is unable to take part or unable to complete an event.
This is a partnership event and therefore only open to those schools subscribed to the Witchford Sports Partnership.
