At this time of year we would normally be hosting our annual cross-country competitions. Unfortunately, they can’t go ahead this year, but we didn’t want you to miss out so instead we bring you the ‘Friendship Run’. This is an inclusive event with personal best type challenges which focus on friendship, fun and wellbeing. We hope these activities will get everyone active, involved and working together, feeling part of something big and feeling the strength of friendship. For those who are missing the competitive element to running, there is also the option to enter a competition on who can run the fastest mile in our partnership and in the county.

FRIENDSHIP RUN AND 1 MILE RUNNING CHALLENGE

19th October – 23rd October 2020

Age groups: Open to all children in KS1, KS2 and KS3.

Outline of event: The idea of the friendship run is that children and young people take on one or more of the personal challenges throughout the week with the focus on FRIENDSHIP, FUN and WELLBEING with and element of competition thrown in for those who want it. If you are unable to run you can walk, scoot, roll or pedal!

Personal Challenges: There are a number of personal challenges for you to choose from, you might choose one for the whole week or several it is up to you. You can run this throughout the week or on one chosen day, we have left it flexible for you to do what works for your school.

  • Running Streak – How many consecutive days can you run for?
  • Run with family and friends  – can you complete a run with family and friends, supporting one another?
  • How far can you run in a week?
  • Can you run for 15 minutes? – set your own time?
  • Scavenger Hunt  – find some items while you run
  • What is the furthest you can run? Set yourself a distance goal
  • How far can you run as a class? Set yourself a distance goal for the week!
  • Beat your own time – set a route that you can run or walk and then try to beat it!

Competition Time! For those of you that are motivated by a bit of competition we challenge you to see how fast you can run 1 mile (1600m). Who will be the fastest runner in each School Sports Partnership? Who will be the fastest runner across the 5 partnerships? We will ask you for your top three fastest runners in each category (maximum of 3 but can be less) in each year group who take part. i.e. maximum entries would be top 3 boys in year 3 and top 3 girls in year 3, and so on for each year group.

Awards – partnership participation certificates will be available for all children/groups who take part in the friendship run or 1 mile challenge. Further rewards for the fastest runner in each category.
