This is a TARGETED event for Year 4/5/6 girls who are new to football. The aim is to engage new audiences, develop physical skills and promote enjoyment. Those players who attended the #LETGIRLSPLAY# football festivals are encouraged to take part in this competition.

The aim of this event is to offer a stepping stone to competition for girls who are new the game of football and to offer girls a positive experience in a friendly environment where they will be inspired to continue playing the sport in the future. The event is aimed at teams/girls who are beginners or new to the game, not those already playing regular club football. This is ideal for those girls who have begun to play football in school this academic year and/or those who came to the previous #LETGIRLSPLAY football festivals.

To ensure the focus of this competition is on participation and enjoyment each team will be allocated a country they will represent throughout the competition, and scoring of matches will include spirit of the games scoring. i.e. scoring the opposing team on their teamwork and sportsmanship. The teams scoring highly in the spirit scoring will be recognised at the end of the competition.

Team size: 7 a-side with up to 10 in a squad

Simple rules – Rules of Association Football apply apart from the following variations:
• 7-a-side using a size 4 football
• No offside
• Rolling substitutes during a stoppage of play
• All players should receive equal playing time where possible
• Goal kicks can be taken from anywhere within the penalty area
• All free-kicks are DIRECT
• All opposing players must be AT LEAST five yards from the ball at the taking of free-kicks, corner kicks and kick-offs.
Optional power play – If a team is losing by a four goal difference they can put an additional player on – so 7v7 becomes 8v7. If the score returns to less than a four goal difference the team takes off a player. It does not have
to be the last player to come on. If a team goes on to be losing by a six goal difference a further additional player can be added – so 8v7 becomes 9v7.
